Anne had a frank and interesting friendship and a close friendship with Gilbert Blythe, who is 2 years younger but is studying on the same academic level in the same way as Anne. Gilbert's dad had a health issue and he was forced to stop his education. Gilbert called Anne Carrots on their first encounter.
